The Law on Window Tinting
All the windows behind the driver can be tinted in any shade you choose as there is no law applying to them. But there is a law for the windscreen and front side windows.
The UK law states in the Road Regulations 1986 specify that the minium levels of light that must pass through the windscreen and front side windows are as follows:
Motor vehicles first used before the 1 April 1985 the windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of VLT (visible light transmission) to pass through.
Motor vehicles first used after 1 April 1985 the VLT through the windscreen must be at least 75%. The front side windows must allow at least 70% VLT pass through.
If you choose to have your front windows tinted you may get away with it or you may not, is the risk worth taking? In the long run it could cost you a lot more money.
